Dr. Ahmad Nawaz is Associate Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics & Graduate Institute of Development Studies (GIDS), Lahore School of Economics. He has been associated with GIDS since the start in 2013 as being the adjunct faculty and from Jan 2022, he has joined Lahore School of Economics (LSE) as permanent Faculty.

Dr. Nawaz has undergraduate degree from Government College Lahore, a Masters degree from QAU, Islamabad and University of Manchester and a Doctorate degree in Economics from a leading European Development School at University of Goettingen, Germany. He also had a research stay at the Center of Research in Microfinance (CERMi) at the University of Brussels in 2010.

Dr Nawaz’s teaching and research experience spans over 20 years. Prior to Joining LSE, He has taught at Government College University and COMSATS University, Islamabad. Besides, he has also served at Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), a premier research and teaching institute in Pakistan for 10 years as research Economist. He has a diverse teaching experience primarily in the domain of development economics but nonetheless spreads to management and finance areas at both undergrad and graduate levels. He has supervised more than 60 MPhil thesises in the domain of economics, development studies and management.

Dr. Nawaz has frequently participated in international conferences. Among others, he has presented research work in all the European Research Conference on Microfinance hosted by CERMi and European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) since its inception in 2009. Further, since 2015, along with GIDS graduates, he has been presenting papers and convening panels at the Development Studies Association (DSA), UK. Besides, he has participated in various international workshops, trainings and seminar hosted by the development agencies. He has also worked as consultant with International Development Agencies like JICA, GIZ and SAARC.

Dr. Nawaz’s research interests lies primarily in the domain of development economics with a focus on Microfinance and more recently equity and sustainability issues in developing societies. He has publications in reputed international journals like Strategic Change, Journal of Asian Economics, Social Indicators Research, Journal of Environmental Management, The Chinese Economy, Journal of Chinese Economic and Foreign Trade Studies and Global Business Review, among many others.
