Insights from Mr. Ali Tauqeer Sheikh on Understanding the Taxonomy of International Climate Finance

On May 23, 2024, the Graduate Institute of Development Studies, Lahore School of Economics hosted a seminar featuring Mr. Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, a distinguished expert in climate finance. The seminar, titled “Understanding the Taxonomy of International Climate Finance,” provided a comprehensive overview of the complex mechanisms and structures that govern climate funding. Mr. Sheikh, who chairs the Asia Pacific Group within the newly established Loss and Damage Fund, shared his extensive experience in developing rules and procedures for fund operationalization. His insights, drawn from his roles in the Pakistan Climate Change Council and the Planning Commission of Pakistan, as well as his advisory positions and contributions to prominent boards and committees, offered attendees a profound understanding of climate finance governance. The event underscored the critical importance of effective financial strategies in addressing climate change, engaging students and faculty members in meaningful discussion.
